‘Martyn Johnston Artist’.

Martyn Johnston is an artist born in the Midlands but now living on the Devon / Dorset border.

Although working professionally in engineering and IT, Martyn’s interest in wildlife stems from two decades volunteering in wildlife rescue; rehabilitating and releasing a huge variety of animals over the years.

Using his artistic talents to produce these wildlife images has allowed him to combine his two great passions.

This series of work uses a high quality, very fine-grained Baltic Birch plywood, which has a very pale and pleasing finish.  The work is designed by hand and then each one is individually cut using a scroll-saw, making each piece unique. Martyn tries to convey the peace and beauty that he sees in the natural world by using the simplicity and natural beauty of wood.

Martyn is also interested in animal welfare, model-making, radio-controlled gliding, computers, DIY, gardening, looking after four rescue goats and wondering why there isn’t ever enough time to do everything.
